A NEW CHAPTER
I blame Andy……When I joined Crank The Radio, I told Andy Zuraw that I wanted CTR to be the last band I would ever be in. It was to be my ‘swan song’ as a musician. Andy busted his ass on that project and it became the most successful band I’d ever been in. Eventually, Andy stepped down and handed the reins over to me. I kept the project alive for another season. The other band members each moved on and when I found myself replacing a second round of players, I shut the project down.
I wasn’t done though. Despite my attempt at retirement, I got immediately pulled into another project, and another one after that. In every band, players come and go. It can become traumatic. Your ability to play gigs can sometimes be impaired because the human beings who are the building blocks of the project have lives outside the band.
Something wasn’t quite right anymore. After 30 years of being a bass player in support of someone else’s project, I was building a vision of the music I wanted to play and what that show would look like. I love the people I was jamming with. Yet, the gigs weren’t quite what I expected, or exactly what I wanted anymore. I needed to get in control again.
I decided to prepare a solo project. I have all the gear I need and the experience to run the show. It wasn’t going to matter anymore who was available and who wasn’t. It was time to simplify my music. No more big rooms. No more big PA.
I just love to play, so here I go. I’m putting on the show myself. If some friends show up to play, that’s a bonus. If they don’t, the show will go on…..
